چکیده
This paper focuses on performance management of computer communication networks serving large-scale integrated systems. The performance management aims to improve the network performance in handling various types of messages by on-line adjustment of protocol parameters. The principle of fuzzy logic have been used in formulating the performance management rules and in deriving management decisions. This fuzzy performance management has been evaluated with an IEEE 802.4 network that is simulated by a discrete event simulation language. The results of this paper offer a step forward to bridging the gap between management standards and users' demands for efficient network operations since most standards address only the architecture, services, and interfaces for network management. Moreover, the results shows that the fuzzy performance management procedure is much simpler than the one previously developed with perturbation analysis, stochastic approximation, and learning automata.

متن کاملThe IEEE token bus-A performance bound on GM MAP - Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on
All versions of the General Motors Manufacturing Automation Protocol (GM MAP) specify that MAP’S lower layer services are to be provided by the IEEE 802.4 token bus. An understanding of 802.4 and its performance aspects is therefore prerequisite to predicting the performance of MAP. We show how total bus capacity is divided among data throughput, token traffic, and propagation delays. We show t...
متن کاملPerformability of a token bus network under transient fault conditions
Local area networks are representative of a growing class of distributed systems which demand more sophisticated methods and tools to evaluate system behavior in the presence of faults. In particular, since they are likely to exhibit degradable performance, the concept of performability can provide more re ned assessments of their ability to perform under fault and error conditions. This paper ...
متن کاملBuzz-Net: A Hybrid Token/Random Access LAN
Buzz-net is a local network supported by a pair of unidirectional buses to which stations are connected via passive interfaces. The access protocol is a hybrid which combines random access and virtual token features. More precisely, the network operates in random access mode at light load and virtual token mode at heavy load. Because of the virtual token implementation, Buzz-net retains high ef...
